Cellulose Derivative-Based Bioadhesive Blend Patch for Transdermal Drug Delivery

In this study, matrix-type transdermal patches of glibenclamide were developed using a combination hydrophilic and hydrophobic polymers for investigating the efficacy carriers. A cellulose derivative, HPMC E50, was used as matrix-forming polymer, Eudragit RS 100 polymer. The solvent casting technique employed to develop blend patch formulation chloroform methanol solvent. No drug–polymer interaction observed by FTIR study. membrane permeation study exhibited sustained release up 12 h within range 76.15 ± 2.80% 101.01 0.33% depending on polymeric ratio. increased concentration in different formulations has gradually decreased amount drug penetration through membrane. kinetic analysis showed is best explained zero-order kinetics, followed Higuchi first order. exponent suggested shifting non-Fickian diffusion super case II transport mechanism when increased. It concluded that may be better alternative conventional oral delivery glibenclamide.
